Step 1 - Radon alert

ENVIROPORTA is involved on ​Atlantic Radon Awareness Task Force as the only participant from New Brunswick.
Jean Dallaporta continues to appear on public presentations, TV news, radio shows, publications and social media.

''Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally when the uranium in soil and rock breaks down. It is invisible, odourless and tasteless. When radon is released from the ground into the outdoor air, it is diluted and is not a concern. However, in enclosed spaces like homes, it can accumulate to high levels. High radon levels can be a risk to the health of you and your family.'' (Department of Health)

​Step 2 - Radon test

ENVIROPORTA uses long term Alpha track radon tests from approved laboratories. 
Approved continuous radon monitors are also used for short term radon readings as per guidelines for radon at the time of a real estate transactions: buyers pay a short-term radon test prior to closure date and sellers pay radon mitigation to make the house a safe home.
'' As residential radon monitors become popular, it is safe to say that any reading over 50 Bq/m3 may indicate a too high radon level. Any reading over 500 Bq/m3 is a stronger indication that such radioactive level in a nuclear facility would trigger the use of a respiratory mask along with other protection gears.
